Leonard Nimoy has announced that he is to retire from acting. The actor, 79, is best known for playing the Vulcan Spock in the hugely successful ‘Star Trek’ series.
He appeared in last year’s big screen reboot of the franchise, but has now vowed to call it a day. He said: “I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I’ve had a great, great time. Since ‘Star Trek’ began, I’ve never had to worry about where the next job was.”
While Nimoy will forever be known for playing Spock, he has also had a varied career as a singer, poet, writer and director. (He helmed two ‘Star Trek’ films in the ’80s, as well as 1987′s ‘Three Men and a Baby.’)
We take a look at what the other ‘Star Trek’ actors have been up to since they left the USS Enterprise.
Unlike Nimoy, Shatner never got the chance to reprise his role as Captain Kirk in last year’s blockbuster. However, he has enjoyed the biggest success out of the Enterprise crew – starring in number of Hollywood movies, including ‘Miss Congeniality’. He also enjoyed great success on the small screen, appearing in 100 episodes of ‘The Practice’ and its spin-off show ‘Boston Legal’, alongside James Spader.
