AN ELUSIVE MONKEY FEARED EXTINCT HAS SHOWN UP IN THE REMOTE FORESTS OF BORNEO, POSING FOR THE FIRST GOOD PICTURES OF THE ANIMAL EVER TAKEN.

The mug shots reveal a furry Count Dracula of sorts, with the monkey’s black head, face tipped with white whiskers and a pointy collar made of fluffy white fur.

The Miller’s grizzled langur, an extremely rare primate that has suffered from habitat loss over the last 30 years, popped up unexpectedly in the protected Wehea Forest in east Kalimantan, Borneo.

“We knew we had found this primate that some people had speculated was potentially extinct,” said study researcher Stephanie Spehar, a primatologist at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. “It was really exciting.”

But the animal is still in grave danger, Spehar told LiveScience, and no one knows how many of these langurs are left. The researchers observed only two small groups of them.

Vanishing act

The shy monkey (Presbytis hosei canicrus) was seen in the 1970s in Kutai National Park in Borneo, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) from where the new population lives. But as the years passed, fires and illegal logging devastated Kutai. By 2008, the Miller’s grizzled langur seems to have vanished from the park. A survey that year found just five langurs living on the Sangkulirang Peninsula in East Kalitmantan, also about 50 miles (80 km) away from the newly discovered langur habitat. But by 2010, that group of primates had also disappeared.

“At this point, we didn’t know if this animal still existed or whether it was still hiding out in little pockets,” Spehar said.

Spehar has been working in the Wehea Forest of Borneo for four years, but she’d never seen a Miller’s grizzled langur there. Last summer, however, one of her undergraduate students camped out by a mineral lick area for 10 days, a spot where animals come to get nutrients from mineral-rich soil and water. Upon returning from his stakeout, Fell showed Spehar his photographs. Among them were images of long-tailed, black-headed langurs.

“I knew this was something special,” Spehar said. “I knew that it was something that was unexpected and we hadn’t seen before.”

Monkey reborn

Spehar, who credits the find to the work of local communities and governmentsthat protect the forest and support her research, showed the photos to another researcher working in the woods, the director of the conservation organization Ethical Expeditions Brent Loken. The revelation surprised both parties: It turned out that Loken’s group had also been staking out a mineral lick 5 miles (8 km) away from Fell’s with a motion-triggered camera. On y redécouvre tout son parcours, de la Beyoncé petite fille qui dansait devant ses parents à l’adolescente qui trouve son premier public avec les Destiny’s Child puis la gloire, jusqu’à son avènement en tant qu’artiste solo. On y découvre aussi des images exceptionnelles des essayages de sa robe de mariée. La séquence est très furtive, mais on y distingue la chanteuse, sans maquillage, un sourire énorme sur le visage, dans une robe blanche de princesse à la longue traîne.

Ce DVD, intitulé 4 Live at Roseland, permet de retrouver Beyoncé dans l’ambiance cosy d’un petit théâtre, devant un tout petit public, mais l’ambiance n’en est pas moins survoltée. Un disque bonus proposera tous les clips tournés pour l’album et ils sont nombreux.

Autant dire que sa réaction n’a pas laissé la toile de marbre. Entre messages de soutien et de désapprobation, plusieurs centaines de personnes avaient déjà réagi au tweet deux heures à peine après sa publication.

Contrairement à ses habitudes, Demi Moore n’avait de son côté rien publié sur son compte intitulée “@mrskutcher”.

L’actrice est connue pour ses rôles dans les films “Ghost” (1990), “Des Hommes d’honneur” (1992), “Proposition indécente” (1993) et “A armes égales” en 1997.

Les rumeurs de séparation du couple s’étaient enflammées après que Ashton Kutcher eut été soupçonné d’avoir eu une relation avec Sara Leal, une texane blonde de 22 ans, lors d’un voyage entre amis en septembre dernier.

La demoiselle a expliqué par la suite que Kutcher lui aurait dit ne plus être en relation avec sa femme.

Kelly Osbourne was rushed to the hospital over the weekend with a dangerous injury, but appears to be in the clear.

The 27-year-old E! Fashion Police co-host tweeted about the incident, which happened in Miami, today.

‘Long story short I cracked my head open then kept passing out. I have the all clear [and] my mum [Sharon Osbourne] came to get me,’ she wrote on her Twitter page.

Although she has not immediately revealed the cause of her injury, she plans to do so tomorrow.

The Dancing With the Stars alum was quick to graciously thank those that helped her survive her head trauma.

‘I just want to 2 thank all the incredible doctors and nurses @ Mercy hospital in Miami 4 taking such good care of me. U guys really are amazing!’ she wrote.

It seems like Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter really just can’t seem to cut a break.

In addition to her unexpected hospital stay, she’s also come under fire by the LGBT communities for her use of the word ‘tranny’ during a recent magazine interview.

She described her humiliation at discovering that ex-fiance Luke Worrall had cheated on her with a transsexual.

She told Glamour magazine recently: ‘Having to tell them my fiance had cheated on me with a tranny who sold his/her story to the press [was the most uncomfortable moment]. It was so humiliating.’

Kelly, who is the face of Madonna’s Material Girl for Macy’s collection, has since apologised, tweeting: ‘I can only apologize if I offended u. I have lots of transgender friends that like 2be called trannys…’

A Charlottetown woman wants to honour her late husband by wearing his military medals for Remembrance Day, but she doesn’t want to break the law.

Madrien Ferris said Friday she would like to wear the 10 medals her husband Albert, nicknamed Smiley, received during his 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. But Article 419 of the Criminal Code prohibits anyone other than the veteran from doing so.

“The medals are very important to me. He loved being in the military, that was his great, great love,” said Ferris. “He told me when we were getting married in 1954; he said, ‘you realize Madrien that I’m married to the army first.’”

“And I think [it's] really a shame because now his medals are no longer on display. They’re just put away somewhere.”

Her husband was born in Ireland and displayed his Canadian medals proudly every Remembrance Day until he died, Ferris said.

“It showed the man, that he was willing to serve and lay down his life for his new country.”

She said she was surprised to learn that wearing his medals would be illegal.

“I knew it was frowned upon, but I didn’t realize that you could be arrested.”

A decade ago, an effort was made to change the law in Ottawa but it was voted down. Medals can be worn on the right side by family members of veterans in Britain and Australia.

Jeff Rose-Martland, of the Newfoundland non-profit veteran advocacy group Our Duty, expressed worry that medals would soon disappear from public view. “Within a few years, maybe as much as a decade, many of these medals will never be seen under the current legislation. They’ll be in people’s houses,” he said.

“Clearly, this section of the code is intended to target fraud and those who might impersonate a veteran,” said the group’s president Jeff Rose-Martland in a news release Wednesday.

“However, there are no exemptions or defences outlined in the code.”

Bob Butt, of the Royal Canadian Legion, said that it is disrespectful for anyone to wear medals they didn’t earn.

“Because we’re the Legion, we believe in the law of the land, we follow the law of the land, and it’s against the Criminal Code of Canada to wear medals that were awarded to anybody else,” he said.

No First World War veterans remain alive in Canada and there are fewer from the Second World War every year.

A spokesman from Canada’s Veterans Affairs Department said veterans are divided on the issue, but he doesn’t know of any plans to change the law.

For now, Ferris’s medals will stay in storage.

Rescuers pulled a two-week-old baby girl alive from the arms of her mother, who had also survived but was still trapped in the rubble of their apartment on Tuesday, two days after a powerful earthquake in southeast Turkey.

The mother was clutching the infant to her chest when rescuers reached them, and they were working to bring her out, as well as a grandmother, who was also still alive.

“I am so excited. What can I say. Let God help them,” the child’s other grandmother, Sevim Yigit, told Reuters, eyes brimming with tears of joy beneath her headscarf.

As she spoke, a rescuer leaned forward to reassure her: “We’re going to get them out soon.”

There was no word on the father, who had also been in the building when it fell.

The grandmother said the baby, named Azra, was born two weeks ago.

The large crowd gathered at the scene applauded when a rescuer emerged cradling the baby in his arms. Relieved relatives pressed forward as she was taken to an ambulance.

“We have been waiting for almost 48 hours,” said a teenaged boy cousin, whose mother was also missing. “I hope my mother and aunt will be rescued as well.”

The family had been trapped since the apartment block, several stories high collapsed when the 7.2 magnitude quake stuck early on Sunday afternoon.

One side of the building was reduced to a pile of broken concrete masonry and mangled metal, while the other side was leaning, only propped up by a crane so that the rescue operation could continue more safely.

The official toll from Sunday’s quake rose to 366 on Tuesday, but many people were still missing under the rubble in towns and villages at the northeast end of Lake Van, Turkey’s largest lake, near the border with Iran.

More buildings collapsed in Ercis, a town of 100,000 people, than elsewhere.

Quelques jours après son accouchement, Mariah Carey et son mari Nick Cannon ont dévoilé les prénoms de leurs jumeaux, un garçon et une fille. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est qu’ils méritent de figurer dans un top des prénoms plutôt bizarres.

Après plusieurs fausses alertes, la chanteuse Mariah Carey a finalement accouché de ses jumeaux, un garçon et une fille, le 30 avril dernier. Et pour garder le suspense, la diva a préféré garder les prénoms secrets pendant quelques jours.

Aujourd’hui, elle a accepté avec son mari Nick Cannon, de dévoiler les deux prénoms. Ainsi, la petite fille se nomme Monroe Cannon. Elle ne possède pas de deuxième prénom car Mariah elle-même n’en a pas. Monroe fait bien évidemment référence à Marilyn Monroe, qui a beaucoup servi d’inspiration à la chanteuse. Quant au fils, il se nomme Moroccan Scott Cannon. Scott est aussi le deuxième prénom de Nick Cannon. Moroccan fait référence à l’un des appartements de Mariah Carey, décoré dans un style évidemment marocain et où Nick lui aurait demandé sa main.

On espère que le jeune papa se débrouillera mieux avec ses enfants qu’à l’accouchement de sa femme. Quelques heures avant la naissance, il avait en effet conduit la diva dans le mauvais service et avait été redirigé vers le service maternité par une infirmière.
